The Origins and Development of the European Dance Organisation (EDO)

The vision of establishing a united European platform within the dance industry began to take shape between 2014 and 2016, through the collaboration of legally established organisations representing different European countries.

The original project was founded on the principles of mutual support, international cooperation, and the exchange of adjudicators, teachers, and dance professionals at events organised by its members.

A central ambition was to develop a strong and interconnected European dance community, supported by a common platform featuring an annual ranking system that would recognise and promote dancers’ achievements across international competitions.

This vision led to the creation of the European Dance Tour, which became an important foundation for the competitive activities of the European Dance Organisation (EDO).

Between 2019 and 2020, the initiative entered a new phase of development. Approximately 25 member organisations from different European countries expressed their shared commitment to strengthening European cooperation and establishing a prestigious continental championship platform.

This collective ambition gave rise to The European Open, a series of championship titles designed to bring together dancers, organisers, and dance professionals from across Europe under a common vision of sporting excellence, international collaboration, and mutual recognition.

Today, the European Dance Organisation continues to build upon these foundations, promoting unity, opportunity, and sustainable development throughout the European dance community.
